How To Tie Butterfly Obi Kimono Encyclopaedia

Part 1

The Butterfly (or Cho Cho Musubi) obi is worn with casual kimono such as the yukata.


Step 1:
Place the ‘te’ end over the ‘tare’ end.


Step 2:
Tie the two ends.

Step 3:
Fold the ‘tare’ end into 3 folds.


Step 4:
Fold the center of the ‘tare’ end into 4 folds.

Part 2

Step 5:
Fold the ‘te’ end around the ‘tare’ fold.
Step 6:
Fold the ‘te’ end around the ‘tare fold again and tuck in any excess.


Step 7:
The completed obi tie.
Step 8:
Move the obi tie to the back of the body with the right hand, while the left hand holds on to the obi ita. The obi ita stays in the front of the body.
Step 9:
The obi tie is worn on the back of the body.

Step 10:
The yukata is completed with geta sandals and pouch.
